I upgraded my iPod Touch to 2.0 today. I am in heaven. The first app I downloaded from the App Store was Remote. I absolutely LOVE being able to control my iTunes Library over WiFi using my iPod Touch. And for FREE no less. So now I can be anywhere in my house and switch tunes whenever I want without having to be where my computer is. And I don’t need to run wires or deal with crazy hacked up smart home or X10 setups, either. So simple…LOVE it! There are a lot of Apple haters out there…that’s a shame, because Apple simply gets it. There’s no other way to say it…if you ask me, they are the only true IT company around. They do the whole thing, soup to nuts, they do it well, and they make it seamless. It took me all of 10 seconds to get Remote working and playing anything in my Library. There’s no way that would have happened on Windows, from any vendor, and certainly wouldn’t happen with Linux.

Yes, but with all the changes Apple is making these days my Mac seems to be constantly demanding Restarts. That bouncy Restart icon is about to drive me up the wall!
As for iPods, my Gen I 5-GB iPod still soldiers on and I am too cheap to replace it. The battery only wears out if you discharge it you see, and my little baby has been completely discharged perhaps six times in her life. My playlist? A little ABBA, Arrogant Worms, Kate Bush, Frantics….
For handheld video I buy what eBay calls “MP5 Real Players”. They cost forty bucks, play back 400 x 240 30-fps Divx video on three-inch screens, hold ten movies downloaded from Usenet and are the size of credit cards. Neener neener.
Hi John,
Thats the same idea I have for using the iTouch (maybe someone has an idea for christmas). And I totally aggree to your opinion about Apple products. They have a feeling what PC users really need.
But the only disappointment is the usage of an aiport express to connect my iTunes Library to my HiFi devices.
It works best with iTunes but…
Why is this feature only usable within iTunes and not part of the Core Animations for all other applications.
i.e. Mosaik playing YouTube songs, GarageBand playing the piano pieces from my wife or any other music player.
I suppose they disabled it for their own iStore marketing. They are able to build excellent boxes but also know how to make money with their ideas.
I’m really interested in any news or ideas on this issue.
Viele Grüsse aus Deutschland
