I got a big boost on my home studio acoustic treatment plans the other day from the guys at Ready Acoustics. They offer a free consultation service…I had my doubts, but decided to give it a try. I sent them a JPEG export of my SketchUp file, and a JPEG of the actual room, along with a description of the room dimensions, what I wanted to do, what my budget was, etc. They responded and asked if a) rearranging the room contents was an option, and b) I would be willing to send them the actual SketchUp file instead of a 2-D export. I replied “Sure” to both.
They took my SketchUp file and sent back two different iterations, describing what they recommended. I’m impressed…I now have a much better idea and plan for treating my studio acoustically, and I’ll be able to spend less than I expected, too. Not bad at all. The only thing that sucks is I’ll have to disassemble my whole studio, pull everything out, do the treatment, and then put everything back in. Not a big deal, just a hassle. I’ll wait for a holiday weekend, like maybe Easter or Memorial Day, and make it into a mini adventure and a HOWTO.
